2 out of 5 stars Nice Idea, Bad Delivery   May 18, 2008

When I played the demo for this game, i thought it looked awesome. The graphics where good, i like the idea of the drones, and i thought the story looked pretty complex. But once i bought the game and started playing it, i quickly became bored. Every mission all you do is capture enemy positions and blow up artillery pieces and you don't have any variety of weapons and vehicles. Not to mention the story, which is that the US and England is fighting Russia and China over the remaining oil wells, has only two characters and is very slow. And to add to that the controls suck. It would be a huge waste of money if you buy this game. And don't forget that the game is short.

1 out of 5 stars Incredibly Nonsensical   June 22, 2008

Frontlines is, without a doubt, one of the most frustratingly bad games I've seen for the XBOX 360. Most of the problems stem from lackluster level design and a complete lack of logic in the game world.

For example, vehicles have a tendency to appear from nowhere at designated spawn points. They are not moved airlifted into position, they just "pop" into existence. I cannot remember the last time I was as frustrated with a game as when one of these suddenly appeared and crushed me beneath it.

Characters in this game tend to absorb ridiculous numbers of bullets before being killed... even rounds from .50 cal sniper rifles which would normally cut a human being in half. It's unrealistic, frustrating, and slows the gameplay to a crawl. And when you are killed, the game gives you a finite number of extra lives with which to keep going and complete the mission. There are no in-game saves.

And yes, you read that right. We are in 2008 and there is still a game anachronistic enough to count your extra lives. This is a convention that went extinct with Wolfenstein 3D!

Vehicle controls are awful. Tank control is not entirely bad, except that a real-world M1A2 could out-perform your allegedly futuristic vehicles. The jeep controls are completely baffling, because you will always drive in the direction your turret is facing. The tanks don't suffer this handicap. Why the vehicles needed such different control schemes is beyond me.

Friendly AI is completely useless. After playing the entire single player campaign I can only recall a single instance of my allied troops killing an enemy soldier. Although you usually have half a dozen troops around you, trust me, you'll be the one doing all the work. I noticed more than one occasion in which my men seemed to magically teleport into enemy lines ahead of me. On the other hand, there were several major battles in which my supporting soldiers completely vanished, leaving me alone against dozens of enemies. (Not that they would have helped)

Level storytelling is nonexistent. In each level you are pitted against 50-100 enemy soldiers coming at you from every direction. They run around apparently at random, and have no sense of higher organization (such as squads). There is no problem-solving to be done and no deeper story beyond killing everything you see. After playing the virtuoso "Orange Box," this was a major letdown.

The cut scenes are skillfully animated, but I couldn't stand to watch them. Almost every character is a swaggering, testosterone-laden body builder attempting to look as comically macho as possible. I am convinced that anyone who watches these scenes will actually be dumber for having seen them.

There is one saving grace to "Frontlines." It is pretty to look at. Unfortunately, it takes more than that to impress me.

3 out of 5 stars Just play the multiplayer demo you can download from xbox live   March 3, 2008

I must say, I played the demo and found it pretty good except for the very common lag, and many glithces. I could go on forever about the glithces this game has including: zooming in for a second after u zoom out, and as the other guy mentioned...i have also played a game of ring around the roses until i decided to find another room which had even more lag then the one before. When i played the actual game i was very disappointed that the glithes and lag that took place in the demo, which was launched well before the game was launched, was not fixed and was present in the game. The demo offers two maps with 32 player combat which I thought was very fun and much better than the game. This game is not worth buying. In fact, I sold the day I got it and redownloaded the multiplayer demo. My opinion: just wait a few more days for rainbow vegas 2 to come out.

5 out of 5 stars This is multiplayer paradise.....   March 5, 2008

Look, maybe I'm old and crusty - as I've been at this awhile - but I've looked past the early, sporadic lag issues and occasional hiccups finding a server (these issues will surely be fixed, and are being fixed) - and I've found an awesome multiplayer experience.

If you've ever enjoyed any of the early Battlefield games (especially 1942) BUY THIS GAME. It's all about the multiplayer (the single player is a primer at best). HUGE maps, large quantities of players (especially for the 360), myriad vehicles, weapons, gadgets, and so many ways to creatively engage the other side. The 360 has been screaming for a big multiplayer experience like this. Don't miss it.

3 out of 5 stars Nothing great   March 25, 2008

First off I 'll admit I didn't get the chance to play on-line so while multi-player may be great, I've just played Single. Weapons are numerous and interesting , but you lose the "interesting ones" when the mission is completed even though you're in the same arena. On you team is a number of people, but they don't acutally do anything. If you watch them you'll see the enemy shooting to the left and your team member shooting to the right, Of course most of the enemy will be shooting right in your direction. Like Call of Duty 4 no one moves forward unless you do your thing. The explosive RC car is nice but if it hits a pebble it stops. Getting into and driving a vehicle is tough because of the wonky controls and camera angles. I don't know if the enemies spawn because there are a ton of them all over the place (only shooting at you remember). The scenes are nice and the story is very good.
