Hayai DA YO!! June 5, 2008 Oh Leo 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This game is wild. The best realistic/non-realistic racer on the market. Grid is one of the only games were you can actually FEEL the speed. Graphics are tight, gameplay is sick, and all the different races....sponsors.....and teams make you feel like you really are apart of it. I suggest Grid for all racing fans, because this game is INTENSE- and it will have you on the edge of your seat!
Just beautiful, and fun! June 7, 2008 Alaina Mccormick (Gilbert, AZ United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a gorgeous game, the most photorealistic racer out there for the 360. The handling is very much like PGR, arcade-style but with the added bonus of very realistic vehicle damage. I have experienced no framerate issues as mentioned before, in fact I was pleasantly surprised at the solid framerate even with multiple vehicles onscreen. Try open-wheel racing with the behind-the-dash view and you will be absolutely blown away.
Way overhyped June 20, 2008 J. Young (Vancouver, WA) 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
I highly recommend that you try before you buy this game. I picked up a copy the day it came out. Played it for 3 straight days and the experience was rather ho-hum. It's positive attributes first. PROS: It has a full cockpit view (something Forza Motorsport 2 lacks) CONS: Crashes in this game were supposedly "revolutionary." See one crash in this game the excitement is gone. There's nothing revolutionary about them. Virtually no customization of cars. You can achieve a few measly upgrades and that's all. The graphics in this game looked phenomenal in the screenshots. Personal experience however was very disappointing. My biggest gripe, multiplayer. Online play is boring. Little user community. Hard to find rooms to play in that are racing the type of race you want. I would recommend that your rent this game from the video/game store before you decide to plunk down any money. I ended up trading my copy in.
Haven't blinked in three hours!! July 8, 2008 Y. Muthafar 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is so incredible, absolutely the best arcade style racing game since underground 2, I just can't stop playing. It's not so easy to play, other games are easier compared to this one just try to take it easy and remember it's just a game and you'll be having loads of fun. Basically you have three regions to race in, the US, Europe, and the best Japan, each time you win an event in a certain region your reputation builds up leading to the next licence which will increase the amount of money you get. I personally think that the drift races are the best, you also have time trials, speed trials, and your regular races plus a few more. The cars are already customised according to the teams they belong to, once you get your team going you can then choose a color, some vinyls, a number, and some sponsor decals that will be placed on the cars. once you have chosen your team colors every car that you bought or will buy is gonna have the same, when you reach the second license you can start hiring a driver ( you can also fire him )that will race with you each time you enter an event, you can also take the driving offers by teams that will hire you and give you a huge bonus if you achieve what they want ( finish ahead of this or that team, win the event, finish no lower than 3rd...) At the end of each season you will have a chance to race in Lemans, it's really hard but the good thing is that you can skip it and jump to the next season. Ok now the damage part, most of us don't like it but you can use the flashback feature that will rewind your crash so that you can avoid it, sometimes the car won't even go straight! I just restart the race when that happens! I really enjoyed DIRT and now CODEMASTERS gives us this which is even better, cant wait for their next game.
An overall great racing game with just a few issues. July 8, 2008 Kevin Brace 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
First off, ive been playing this game for the last 3 or 4 days straight when ever i have time to play and i am almost done with it. Like Dirt, i think that Codemasters secceded at what they set out to do. In Dirt, they tried to give players one of the best Rally style racing experience they could. With Grid, they concentrated on making the suspense and excitement of the race, the main attention. I think they did this very well. This is not a game for customization, it is made for racing and making your way to the top in the 3 regions of the racing world. I see that many people were disappointed of the lack of customization, difficulty of the racing and car handling, and the annoying voice acting. But its just part of the game that has to be lived with, honestly, if you dont like it, then just dont play the game. Just because there are some elements that you do not like, that doesnt make the game bad. 1. Yes there is little to no customization. The most customization you get is choosing a team graphic that goes on all your cars, 3 difference colors to have applied (with a very wide variety i may add), and a number to choose. Seriously, if you are disappointed by this, you shouldnt be, this game is not made for customization, the small amount that you can customize, fits perfectly. If you want customization, go play Forza or NFS. Come on, PGR doesnt have customization, just colors to choose from, and it is still a popular game. So dont bag on this one. 2. I do however regret to admit that the difficulty in this game can be quite staggering. Unless if you put a ton of hours and get very skilled at this game, you will have a handful just trying to win a race on Basic or Normal. Although, on the Drift races, it was very easy to win on the highest difficulty. Its just the normal races that can be very challenging, and some times down right ridiculous. The cars can tend to be very hard to handle. Every car in the game (even ones of the same class) handle different from one another, it takes alot of effort to become comfortable to any car you jump into. And get used to crashing...ALOT...The physics are very real at times. You can touch the grass or get bumped by another car and easily get spun out. But hey, if u were going 150mph in an A or B class car wouldnt you get spun out by that pretty easy? I thing so. Just adapt and work with it, with time, you will get better and yes it can be frustrating, but the game is just to fun to make you put down the controller. 3. The voice acting can be quite an annoyance at times. Mainly by your crew chief. He often will give you false information like "Your cars a little damaged but its nothing serious" Or "Theres a big crash ahead, watch out" When really, your car is severely damaged and can barely turn and that crash he was talking about? happened 5 seconds before he said anything and you are already totaled because of it. I just kinda ignored it, but if it really bothers you that much, you can just turn the speech volume all the way down. With the cons pointed out, Grid is a very exciting and nerve racking racing game. The graphics are very well done, with all kinds of effects from smoke to dirt and grass flying though the air. But if you were to stop and look around for a second, you can really appreciate the scenery around you. Everything that the game was set out to do, is done very well. All the different events are all recognizable and differ from each other properly. It can have you on the edge of your seat and your heart pounding as you round the last corner in a big 4 race event. Ive literally had my hands ache after racing hard like that. As you progress, you earn sponsors and the further up the ranks you go, you get bigger and better sponsors to earn alot of money, but dont let the large amount of money make you feel to rich. The biggest and best cars you can buy can be very expensive, so spend that well earned cash wisely. All in all, Grid by any means is not the perfect racing game. But it is definitely fun filled and exciting enough to keep you interested for hours of game play, or at least until ur hands hurt to much to continue. For everyone who enjoys this type of racing game and just wants to have a great nail bitting racing experience, i definitively recommend this game.
