This game sucks for everything but multiplayer. July 12, 2006 G. T. C. (The Center) 5 out of 27 found this review helpful
I bought this game because of the good reviews that it got below. Boy was that a wrong move. I don't understand how anyone could give this a good review. Are you people employees of Digital Illusions or EA? Because this was the "suckiest" shooter I have ever played. My experience, of getting this game and expecting something moderately as fun as "Halo," was basically the same as a kid expecting candy and getting a horehound lozenge. First off lets get an understanding about what I like and don't like. I like to play multiplayer games sometimes, but I mainly like to play single player games. I like to play games like "FarCry" and "Halflife" and "Halo". I like games not because of what everyone else says about them, but because they are fun. I don't play games that need special input devices or require you to have a subscription. I just want to put it in the computer and play a fun game that I don't have to worry about leaving if I need to. Just running around and shooting things with no goal is something I could do in any other game. So why would anyone want to pay good money to do it in battlefield? Because that is all you do in this game, until you die and get spawned somewhere to do it again. This is more like a strategy game, but with out the ability to let you strategize. You are the ground troop in the strategy game, effectively, with nobody knowing what is going on until all of a sudden the game stops and says you won. Then you get another level to run around in and do it again. There are no real goals. Sure you can set up a team; sure you can play with or against someone. Whoopiedee Dooooo!! This is, in other words, not a game that has a point. If you want a WW2 game that is good get Call of Duty, or hell even play the original Castle Wolfenstien (I'd trade graphics for fun any day). I can't believe I am saying bad things about a fps game, but if that is what this is supposed to be then they are not the kind that I like. This collection has the very worst single-player mode ever, from any platform. It is so bad that I refuse to sell it to someone because I would then be dealing that person a grievous wrong. If you really, really, really, want to throw your money away, then don't buy this game. Send it to me, I will at least not use it to make a sequel to the royal buggering that you will get by being parted with your hard earned cash for nothing of value. And I wont lie to you and say that you will get something good. I only wish that I had that deal, `cause I feel bad that my money will go towards financing another bogus farce of a game by an ironically named digital illusion. I would rather play solitaire, and that is bad coming from me. The best that I can say about this game is that it has nice graphics for its date.
Battlefield 1942 The Complete Collection August 14, 2006 John Tolentino (Australia) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is definitely an excellent collection which has provided many long hours of fun for my guild members and I. I would highly recommend this boxed set for anyone who enjoys playing cooperative, multi-player, first person shooter action games. The varied array of weapons, vehicles, terrain and missions will keep you and your friends coming back for more. I give this one an overall rating of 5/5!

i bought this game because i recently beat call of duty. i chose between this and dod:S. this had mroe games, so i bought it. i loved the battlefield 2 game, very fun. but this game is so very lacking. where do i start? no diversity of weapons like cod. what do i mean? the japanese have the stens and brens, the us have enfields, the british have thompsons, bars, and garands. then theres the axis with the mp44 mp40 kar, and kar sniper. theres way to few weapons. theres no online ranking system either. this game isnt NEARLY as fun and battlefield 2. all the sudden bam your dead. with battlefield 2, you get shot, but you have the chance to see the enemy and kill them too. in this game, the hitboxs are terrible too. i snuck up on a guy, with a lee enfield sniper, and at his head, and shoot. nothing. he turns around, with a pistol, and shoots me in the leg, i died. the levels are also incredibaly bland. i only give 2 stars because theres a very wide variety of levels, but they seriosly need to let the players use the full aresenals. not swapping around guns to the japanese that the brits should have, american guns the brits shouldnt have ETC. even the russians dont have the mossin nagat. they just have a heavy support weapon you can fire standing up. its like firing one of those mg-42 standing up, but with no recoil. im super pissed i bought this game.
a good collection January 9, 2007 captainvideo (NY , NY United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
these games are somewhat time sensitive. I bought them in 11/06, and while you can still find enough people playing, the numbers are going down. BF2 is out as well as bf 2142. All the games have a single player mode, but it is really just a way to learn to play. You really want to play against 15-30 other people to enjoy the games. There are also some large free mod's for bf1942 which can extend the usefullness of the game. I recommend getting a joystick (I use a saitek evo) for use with planes and helicopters. You can fly without one but it helps. If you are thinking of buying this and more time has passed, you might try to use gamespy or xfire or some online tracker to see how many servers and players are still playing. As of 1/07 I would still recommend it. FYI: this is more of a serious shooter game and will require some effort to learn. I would not pick it as your first game.

The graphics are top notch, game time great, and very realistic. Worth the money, every penny!
