I love it! Mercs 2 is fun! September 4, 2008 Jasyn A. Rigdon (Stafford, VA) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
The gameplay has met and exceeded all my expectations! I love the added vehicles (boats, jet skis, motorcycles, monster trucks) and the combat is much, much, more intense. More explosions, more weapons, more air strike options, just more of everything that made the first title great! Also there is now online co-op and I really like the new mini-game challenges when jacking vehicles! I have a few small issues though, such as I would kill for the chance to move the camera back alittle, they re-maped the controls slightly, and I miss the old shop interface. Now you have to purchase & stockpile gear that you want airlifted to you in the field from various sellers, no more buying on the fly from the black market. Gameplay is now slightly different in style but I still love it! On technical merit I would give it a 4.25 of 5 and on FUN I give it a 5 of 5 stars.

Its really hard to describe how good this game is so ill keep this short. There are over 170 vehicles to drive, you can create your own military company and employ mercenaries (you cant create any, its already pre-determined). The graphics are phenominal, it reminds me of Just Cause another great game. Its pretty long, and interesting. The new weapons are awsome, and there are many minor improvements from the last game, the last game had kinda depressing environments, these are gorgeous and bright and vivid, buy this and dont 2nd guess or look back. You wont be dissapointed

i will probably get this for 1 of my associates ,But the first game Mercs 1 made with Lucas Arts ,is 100 times better ,EA gets their hands on this crap over the past few months .and try to be stupid ,taking things out, like they have done the last 5 years with both football titles ,THIS CRAP is horrific ,glitches , bugs ,etc.. and you so called Fan Boys ,(don't like that word ) need to get over yourselves it's fun though, yeah right, Graphics look 16 bit Capiche!!! terrible excuse for a game ,again by EA who screws up whatever they touch ,hope they don't take the M rated fun of Mass Effect 2 ,and make it a teen rated game like this ,liberals have ruined the country and what we are allowed to play and watch ... stunned and how this company keeps ruining games ,and idiots still stand by them, nuff said......
If you liked the first one, you'll like this one September 2, 2008 J. Hornbuckle 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
For some of you older gamers, this is more like an expansion pack (remember those??) than a true sequel, but I guess there's no point in releasing an expansion on a next gen platform when the original was on the previous gen, so that's why we have a Mercenaries 2 that's basically like Mercenaries 1 with a few extras thrown in The game play is exactly the same, the airstrikes and vehicle drops are the same, capturing people and loading them on extraction choppers still the same, hijacking vehicles has been turned into an easy mini game but is still essentially the same, this is pretty much exactly the same game as the first one. If you played the previous version you can pick this up without looking at the rule book and play it just fine The major changes are: 1) the difficulty seems slightly higher to me, which is good, 2) you can swim through water now, and pilot boats, which to tell the truth makes no difference to me but I guess its a good thing, 3) you have a pair of binoculars now (big deal) and 4) you have to find and hire mercenaries to do simple things like drop you off in remote areas or work on your vehicles Basically those few things and the fact that its set in South America instead of Asia are the only changes up to where I'm at now, maybe 10 hours in. Hope that helps you make a decision on your possible purchase Edited to say that I just beat the game and like seemingly every game that comes out now, its not very long at all. Maybe 1/4 as long as the first one
Fun Game, but Last Gen Gameplay and Graphics in HD. September 3, 2008 Wesley Gallagher (Anime Hell it seems.) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Wow, where to start? I received this game last night from Amazon and let me tell you, I was excited. You see, I saw these awesome screenshots in the official Playstation Magazine about 2 or more years ago and I thought this was going to be game of the year. Ohhhh... how the years have changed you.... Basically, it's the same as the screenshots, it's just, 2 years ago those screenshots were amazing. Now the game looks terrible. After MGS4 and Gears of War, it's hard to go back to 2005-2006 graphics and design and be impressed. The models would all move the same way if they were in a line, the characters were stiff and robotic, the story mode is THE EXACT SAME but with different characters. Wait, wait,... I'm not done. It looked like an Xbox game with new textures.. It was frustrating trying to get away when I was swimming in a foot of water as the enemies were standing in it shooting at me... the AI was so stupid the main enemies would have RPGs and be hiding behind walls. I would walk up; they would magically know I was there, from 30 feet away and shoot right into the wall killing them self in the process. Now I could go on and on, and guess what... all of this happened in the first contract, first 30 minutes for the game. I was so excited for this game, pandemic is one of my favorite developers in the business... but this just fails. It's not all bad, the explosions are great and the game is fairly action packed. But the bar has been raised so many times since this game's conception... that it just doesn't hold up to even a similar first gen on the Xbox 360 game "The Outfit". Not even close. It's so buggy it's almost unplayable. I usually don't preorder games, but this seemed like a sure bet. No wonder you didn't hear anything about it before it released. It's terrible... I can think of a number of similar games on the 360 for 10-15 bucks that are better than this. It's a shame; I really wanted to love this one. The first one was amazing, but times have changed, and pandemic dropped the ball on this one. I just don't know how a 3 year dev time can make a game feel so rushed.
