So you bought an Xbox and want some memory? January 27, 2002 Ash1138 (Centennial, CO United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
So you bought an Xbox and you want some memory? I think years of console experience has ingrained into our heads that we MUST have a memory card. In the past that has been more than true (try having a Dreamcast without several). Years of PC experience has always made me laugh at console gamers for reasons such as this, but that didn't stop me from buying a memory card when I picked up my Xbox on Nov 16th.The only thing keeping me from saying, "and boy what a mistake that was" is the fact that some day I might actually have a use for the thing. Someday I might need to have my information portable. Of course I did also buy the custom Xbox backpack so I can easily transport my Xbox anywhere, so why do I really need this? The Xbox has over six gigabytes of hard drive space. It translates that info into memory blocks. When you view your Xbox HD memory it only says 50,000+ blocks. Now I own five Xbox titles (Halo, DOA3, Project Gotham, Fuzion Frenzy, and Amped) and all of their saved games are saved to the hard drive. I also have three full music CDs copied to the disk and the box still says I have 50,000+ memory available. Don't worry about running out of room on your hard drive. Six gigabytes is an enormous amount or space. While I'm sure this is a solid product as far as quality goes, it is insanely over priced. Now if Microsoft would have gone the Sega route and made VMUs I could see paying 30-40 bucks for them, because at least then they would have some use. If you still really want to own a memory card, by an aftermarket one as they are almost half the cost, and you really aren't going to use it much. Trust me.

8 Megs might not seem like a lot, but i was able to fit all my Grand Theft Auto 3+ Vice City , Thief, Max Payne, Medal of Honour, Ghost Recon,Fifa 2004 and Euro 2004 games no prob. The reason i did this was that my x box laser for some reason stopped picking up the games on time, resulting in many games cutting off and a "disc is dirty or damaged" message. I couldnt bear playing GTA.VC for weeks to get where i was so i bought the card, booted my saved games then traded my x box in. When I got the new box, the games transferred without fail, i was very satisfied. So if any of you all are experiencing problems like above and your x box is still under warranty, you might want to try that.
Be very careful with buying it... September 9, 2003 Gadget junkie (Atlanta, GA USA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought it to transfer the save games to another Xbox. The game in question is Knights of the Old Republic, which is a very good game if you have a lot of spare time. The memory module holds around 500 units, which is plenty for most games. KOTOR's save games are 1600 units! Which it seems to translate to 24M!!! So, keep an eye on the memory usage on your Xbox to make sure the game you want to 'move' or 'save' will fit!
X Box December 13, 2001 D. Brian Paullus (Springfield, MO USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The hard-drive in the XBox is actually 10 gig (thats right 10 gig!) This is very useful when your buddy has an X Box and you want to go to his house with your kick but football team! But other than playing away from home don't need it.
All you need is one. June 1, 2002 William J. Fox (NY USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The wonder of the X-Box internal HD is that you don't really need a memory card... that is until you want to play Halo over at a friend's house and he doesn't have the game. Kind of a pain in the neck to haul around your X-Box for a save game file.
