Finally released.....worth the wait November 4, 2007 J. E. Smyrni (Corsicana, TX USA) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I had played the demo on my PC a few years ago and I was irked by the delay in the release. Well low and behold it finally made it. The gameplay is fun as all get out and the graphics are really really beyond what I had played on the original demo. I am no reviewer but since this game doesnt seem to be getting alot of hype I figured I would vent. As for the FEAR comparison, I really dont see it. FEAR was a yawner that was quite repetitive after awhile. Anyways give this game a go, I am sure you will be quite happy with it.....102

Timeshift on its own merit is a solid game. With crisp graphics and well lit coridoors to shoot in. But seasoned FPS veterens will find it hard-pressed to not be bored with this cookie cutter FPS. Yes it has the time stop-rewind-slow feature as an added power, but its more of a add-on to a standard choridoor FPS than a game designed around it. You'll absolutly need Timeshift to get past certain obsticles ,like say a button you press and a lift goes down, only the button is to far from the lift so you have to press button and wait for lift to rise then reverse time and jump on lift to get to the top. That being the hardest puzzle in the game ,its not big part of the game, but there are occasions where it happens and the only way to advance. The weapons are actually pretty interesting ,like the hellfire which shoots flaming bullets and secondary attack LT is a flamethrower. There's also a sniper cross-bow gun which has an explosive at its tip and is an instant one-hit kill for most enemies and their body explodes into many parts much like in FEAR. There's also the standard shotgun with a secondary 2 slug fire LT, My main weapon of choice. The Timeshift modes 'can' auto-select for you and will give you the best time mode to choose at any given moment, alternatly you can overide it by holding LB and then press either Y-B-X for timeshift/mode of choice, strangely though all the time-modes look simular graphic wise as there not drastically different in appearance. And if you reverse time after firing 10 rounds or so ,strangely the bullets don't reappear in your weapons, but not to worry there's so many ammo crates that you'd think you have Infinite ammo at all times.I played nearly the entire game by simple stopping time which freezes all enemies and walk up to them and hit em with the shotgun's alternate fire mode blast, instant one-hit kill(mostly). The enemy AI is semi-moderate for a choridoor shooter. In the later stages the enemies have some minor timeshifting, the enemy can run at supersonic speed and all you see is trails left by them moving so fast, but unfortunatly with your given time-stop power, you just freeze them and shotgun to the face there dead, and another enemy type morphs in an out of view, but again all you do is ,stop time-shotgun-dead. Overall even with my many gripes Timeshift is a decent rental with nice graphics ,nice rain effects and some really different weapons that have some nice ALT fire modes. The vehicle on the other hand leave allot to be desired as there some of the worse handling vehicles in a next-gen game. There not hard to drive there just poorly executed, but there so sparse that there not a huge part of the game. There semi-simular to Half-Life's but even Half-lifes drive and respond better.Honestly I just wanted to be done with the rental as this game 'really'never grabbed me and I never had any of those 'wow this game is awesome' moments. Being a long-time FPS junkie... A Choridoor shooter like Timeshift feels 'somewhat' dated. But anyone new to the FPS genre will probably like this game, as I said, Timeshift ,as a whole,on its own merit is a solid FPS with clear crisp graphics and standard FPS play with an added time-pause-slow-reverse mode. It's just not stunning to me as a hard-core FPS fan. It took me about 8 hours to finish the campaign and I never bothered with the ho-hum multiplayer as I didn't find the gameplay compelling enough for my tastes.Rental Only
Innovative and Fun November 8, 2007 West Side Soul (North Caldwell, NJ United States) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This game offers a unique twist on a genre that is growing stale. While other games are just sequels of past games, TimeShift allows you to control time in a way that no other game has explored. It is awesome to play with enemies by stopping, slowing and reversing time and watching their reactions. What really makes this game great, though is the addition of a multiplayer mode that is one part quake, one part something so unique and different that it defies categorization. Imagine freezing an enemy in a stop bubble and rotating around them with gunfire, only to watch the bullets converge on the enemy when the grenade dissipates. Imagine throwing a reverse grenade in the path of an incoming rocket and watching the rocket enter the grenade and reverse back out right at the shooter. The possibilities in the MP are endless and I am still exploring them. This game is great!
AMAZING November 30, 2007 Margaret Blayney (New York) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This game is amazing. When i played the demo it was amazing. I knew i had to have the game. You can freeze time, rewind time, or slow it down for about 3-4 seconds. The guns are amazing. Ill let you find out what they are. I recommend this game for xbox 360 or play station 3 either one is sick-nasty. What i think the best part about TimeShift is the online multiplayer. You can have 2-16 players in a game. The possibilities are endless in multiplayer. Im still finding new stuff in it. The storyline may be a bit confusing but you can try to do it or go online and find a walkthrough. The first person shooter is unbelivable in this game. Then the graphics are great as well. Its what you would expect from a next generation game. I think that this is the second best game for xbox 360 besides Halo 3. I would definitly suggest adding this game to your cart.
