3 out of 5 stars How bad do you need to see your GB games on a TV screen?   November 29, 2004

Now, Nintendo could have just given me a device that lets me plug in a GB/A/SP game into the gamecube and play it just like a gamecube game, and I would have been absolutely thrilled. I would have given this product five stars. But I have subtracted two stars instead. One for each major gripe I had with this product.
First, There is a dumb-looking purple frame around whatever game you happen to be playing. You can have it occupy 25% of the screen in what they call "normal" mode, or 10% in what they call "full" mode, but you can't get rid of it entirely no matter what you do, so you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have to feel like you're looking into two television screens instead of one, which is a horrible feeling to have.
The second star down comes from HORRIBLE compatability issues. Nintendo has blundered once more into the creation of this product, once again spitting pompously in the faces of anybody but themselves who makes console accessories for their own console. It didn't take me long to figure out that only Gamecube controllers SPECIFICALLY MADE by Nintendo will work on this little item, which means that I'm screwed because only one my gamecube controllers is made by Nintendo and it's broken.
The controls are set up (according to the instruction booklet) really well. That's fine. The control transition from GBA to GCN was really good. In every other respect, this item performs its function, and I'm glad I got it, but I just thought you might want to know a little about the problems it has.

5 out of 5 stars Gamecube/Game Boy Player = Perfect Combination   June 23, 2003

I've been playing with the Game Boy Player since it's March release in Japan. If you have any interest in some of the awesome Game Boy Advance games and don't own a Game Boy Advance system already, this is a must buy. If you already own a Game Boy Advance and a Gamecube, this is also a must buy and here's why.

With the GB Player you're able to play multiplayer games using your existing GBA system. Since the GB Player includes a GBA link port all you need is a game that supports multiplayer and a GBA link cable. Once hooked up, one player can use the TV screen and the other is able to use the GBA system.

I've been playing The Link to the Past: Four Swords like this since having the GB Player with my daughter and it's awesome! She plays on the TV screen and I play on the connected GBA system.

For the price of one single Gamecube game you now have the chance to play more than 1,000 Game Boy games on your TV. A must buy for any Nintendo fan.

4 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT MINOR DRAW BACK!   June 26, 2003

Okay, So I picked this up and I love it. It's completely backward generational so you can play almost any GameBoy game on your Game Cube at home on you larder than 3x3 inch screen. What more could you ask for? Well, I can name one, if you want to link up and use the tingle features in Zelda: The Wind Waker, or unlock things in Metroid Prime or Splinter cell or any other Game Cube game you love you still need a GameBoy Advance or SP(Get the SP it's much better). How ever if you have the SP and The GameBoy Player it's like having two SP's because you can link them up for multi-player fun on games like, NBA, Four Swords, Pokemon or any other game that can be linked. You can also use the GBA and the GBP to link up and transfer data from game liks Zelda Oracle of the Ages, and Oracle of the Seasons, or any other link able games. If you're really wanting to buy a 2nd or third GameBoy Advance/SP for the sole purpose of linking, transfering, and multi-player fun then get this little ditty...IT'S REALLY WORTH IT!

5 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant   December 4, 2003

Nintendo's Game Boy Player is simply a most brilliant idea that's also well executed, and if you play a lot of Game Boy Advance games, I highly recommend this affordable add-on. The price is right, and the effects are nothing short of truly amazing.

The other reviewers have said much about the Game Boy Player. In a nutshell, it attaches to the bottom of your GameCube, and allows you to play virtually all Game Boy Advance games as well as older Game Boy Color and Game Boy games via the GameCube on TV. Well you won't get progressive-scan HD screens or 5.1 surround sound native GameCube games offer, but the Game Boy Advance games I've tried simply look great. Surrounded by a frame of your choice, the games fill up the TV screen, offering graphic details that you surely have missed while playing on the Game Boy Advance or GBA SP's small screen. Also the games look brighter and more colorful on a TV monitor, making them much more enjoable. And, of course, for gamers with big hands like myself, using the GameCube controller is an added plus.

Any cons? Nothing significant. My only minor gripe is snapping on and off the Game Boy Player takes a bit of an effort, so if you plan to travel with the least amount of weight and volume, this might be a minor annoyance. But really, this doesn't even apply to 99% of us. Simply leaving the Game Boy Player on at all times is fine.

If there's one accessory you want from Santa, be sure to make the Game Boy Player your #1 wish.
