4 out of 5 stars Fun!   December 20, 2004

American Idol is a fun game that's easy to pick on and has a bit of a challenge. The object of the game is to tap either the "A" or "B" button when the cursor gets to the button icon. It's much like Frequency and Amplitude for the PS2. There are 3 types of modes; Competition, Rehearsal, and Endurance. Competition is where you work your way up to becoming the next American Idol. Rehearsal lets you practice you skills before moving on to the competition. Endurance is where you perform as many songs as you can but you must raise the charisma meter up to the designated area to move on to the next song. There are about 20 songs in all from various artists including Ricky Martin, The Monkeys, and even Elvis Presley. The only downside to this game is that instead of saving, you have to type in a password instead. Games like this annoy the crap out of me but this game is still fun, especially for the American Idol fans.

When I first got this game I loved it. I beat it over and over again. Everyone at school was constantly playing it whenever I brought it. Truth to tell whenever I brought it I was a little bit popular. But then the game just got old. It's doing the same songs over and over again. The graphics stink! And the judges say the same thing over and over. "Oh that was great" even if you didn't press a button the entire time. And then when you finally do OK at the finale they say " You stink now get out of here." It's a tuly dissapointing game for Idol fans. The Playstation 2 version is better though.

5 out of 5 stars Fun & Cool, No Upsets   May 11, 2006

The people in charge of making American Idol: The Game made it as best as they possibly could. First of all, you get to pick your gender and your wardrobe, and then you start singing in the "audition" round. If you do well, you go on to sing in another round with another song and another outfit. This pattern continues, but the songs get faster and harder. Some might ask, how do you play this game?
Do you actually sing? The answer to that is a definite no. A circle loops around your Game Boy character filled with A & B's. You press the A & B buttons when the transparent box comes to them in the circle. It's very simple and well-thought.
The better you center your presses, the better your score is. Also, be sure to dress modestly; your wardrobe choice will either get a thumbs up, an OK sign, or a thumbs down. The songs range from Elvis to Britney Spears and while they do get old before long, play the game in moderation; don't overplay it so you don't get tired and bored quickly. Some people complain that the songs get old, but hey, they did over 30 songs for the game, if the executives did every song in the universe to fit the game just to satisfy everybody's wants, then I wouldn't be writing this review because the game still wouldn't be out yet. Needless to say, they did the best job they could do on this game. The judges do look rather quirky, as well (especially Paula), but they did a pretty good job; not too shabby (to quote infamous AI4 contender Mary Roach), and it's DEFINITELY not a reason to buy this neat and entertaining game.
It's BY FAR one of the best and most fun GBA games out there!
