Please do read my review: don't buy it! November 11, 2007 C. Rao (Chicago, IL) 4 out of 29 found this review helpful
I just bought this phone today - Nov 11, 2007. I think I made a bad decision. I bought it simply when we opened up the family plan, my wife got one. So I thought it will be easier for us to get two same phones. So all below is just my first impression. 1) I already have an iPod which I'm going to use for some time in the future and won't drop. The music playing features and function can compete against an iPod any kind. 2) The menu options and the console to control is just ok. Navigating isn't hard but just ok. The graphics look so so - like a very crapy phone I used a while back - maybe this is just my personal reason. 3) The handsfree and headset is one thing but without the clip is very easy to fell off from the ears because the weight of the mic. 4) Since it's a Sony - so memory chip is M2 with an memory stick adapter. I personally like Secure Digital better because of my computers, my cameras, etc. 5) You don't have viberation alarm! You can set the profile to use "in-meeting" mode but alarm sound still rings up in this mode. This is one of my most unacceptable. I haven't made calls or receive calls much yet. So I have not found any pros or cons on this. In general, for those won't use the music features and functions much of this phone but just the voice (btw, text messaging and email etc probably won't be impressive either because of the tiny keypad). Back on this: the touch and the feel of the phone/keys etc seems cheap - I like the feel of Motorola RAZR V3 I was using better. I may make a personal bad decision - but for those who may ended up using the phone like my situation. I don't suggest you to buy. If you are really crazy about the music, get an iPod or iPhone!
Excellent technology, inferior constuction January 12, 2008 Melanie D. Scheuerle 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Pros: MP3 Player with great sound with and without earbuds, comparable to standalone mps players I own Bluetooth built in Internet is fast 2 Mega-Pixel camera with excellent quality photos and videos Fitness application which counts steps, calories, and records progress High Resolution screen Camera protected in slider Lots of Lights giving a cool futuristic look Slick look in general Shake and shuffle mode makes listening to your tunes easy and fun Memory card allows up to 4 gb of songs Video upload capablities Long talk time of 9 hours Great sound quality, the person on the other end of the phone sounds almost there Cons: I got mine last week and the 4 and 6 are cracked in half and the 7 is falling off also with little wear. The keys are made up of very thin plastic and crack if hit wrong; went to the AT&T store to find the store model also has cracked keys. The keys not only break easily with minor usage but are very crammed and you will find yourself punching in more numbers then desired The screen also isn't very well protected and very exposed which will most likely lead to future damage The whole body and frame is made of plastic and feels cheap and flimsy Memory card has to be a special one for sony phones only and are alot more pricey than the storage disk for competitor phones No flash on camera Bottom Line If you aren't a perfectionist, texter, or cellphone gamer and are looking for a cheap phone with incredible technology and mp3 playback and don't mind if the phone is cracked up this is the phone for you. If you are one of the previously mentioned look to the new lg shine cu720 slider phone offering almost all of the same functions in a stainless steel body and keys. It may be more expensive but it is worth it. It was not in sony's best interest to produce such a top of the line phone from a technological stand point and then skimp on the materials, they should of charged a little more to make a more durable, less delicate phone.
One heck of a great phone. March 19, 2008 Nate McCooey (Lockport, NY United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've been an AT&T Wireless customer for just about a year now and this is my second phone, purchased early last month. Prior to this Sony Ericsson, I had a MotoRAZR V3r (red). I paid full retail price (approx. $228) for it because I couldn't wait until August 31 to upgrade from my RAZR (loved it at first but quickly grew to hate it) and I didn't want to extend my contract beyond its current expiration date of March '09. But I digress. I happen to work in the wireless department at a local retailer, and when I saw that we were getting the w580i in I did nothing but play with the demo phone for weeks. When the actual phones came in, I bought mine immediately. So far, I have to say that I am extremely pleased with my purchase. A lot of folks have told me that the w580i is merely a clone of Verizon's "Chocolate" phone, but that's a bad comparison because this phone doesn't have that super-sensitive touch wheel on the outside. On top of that, the w580i has a sleeker design than the Chocolate. The phone gets great reception, and the sound quality when playing MP3 files is outstanding. Dare I say it even rivals that of an iPod. The included earbuds make the music sound so good that they might as well be considered noise-canceling. Besides that, you get a USB cable for file transfer included, along with a 256 MB Memory Stick Micro card. Although 256 MB won't hold many songs (I've got a little over 50 on my playlist right now), the memory is easily upgradeable thanks to an external slot...unlike my old RAZR, on which I had to actually remove the battery cover to access the microSD card. The pictures and videos I can take with this phone are of excellent quality. I also like the fact that the exterior keypad locks automatically when the slide cover is closed. As far as the battery life is concerned, it lasts long enough for me. After one full overnight charge, I can get a day and a half out of the thing, easily. The 2" color screen is gorgeous, especially when watching video clips. It's also great for playing games you can download from the AT&T Mall. Another great feature about the MP3 player is the "shake" shuffle control, in which you hold down the Walkman key and flick your wrist to switch to a different song. Overall, a very solid yet lightweight phone. My only complaints? Texting can be difficult with the small keys and the constantly exposed screen is more susceptible to damage than flip phones, although I knew these things when I bought the phone. Also, the power button is very small and on top of the phone, as opposed to on the front, so turning it on/off can be tough at times. You have to hold this small button down for a few seconds until you feel the "buzz" (same effect you get when you use the "shake" shuffle feature). Other than these minor quibbles, I'm very satisfied.

great phone!!! November 6, 2007 Haley (Ventura) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been getting so many compliments since I received the phone. Crisp display, photo quality is good except the phone camera doesn't have a zoom feature. I guess it's fine since it's a phone, not a real camera.
