Bluetooth STINKS June 22, 2008 J. C. Picker 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this phone from AT&T after 2 hours searching for the "right" phone. I loved it from the start. True, it DID have a shorter than usual battery life, but my lifestyle and usage allowed me to charge at almost any time, so it was never an issue. For 6 weeks, I loved the phone. I even talked a friend into buying one for herself. Then the Bluetooth connection went haywire. I could not re-connect my Plantronics earpiece. I called Plantronics and we tested things until we came to the conclusion that it was NOT the earpiece. I called AT&T and was told, rather rudely, that it was NOT AT&T, but WAS, in fact, Plantronics. After hanging up on AT&T, I went to the local AT&T store where we confirmed that it WAS the phone. They sent me a new one and for 8 hours, it worked. Another new one was sent, and another 8 hours of working, then NOTHING. Meanwhile, I'm talking to people who also have the Shine, and they all report the same problem. My friend, who bought the Shine, was now on HER 4th one, awaiting the arrival of a new Motorola. We both had called LG and were told that there were no known issues with the phone or with its Bluetooth. How could the NOT know?? The person I talked to would not even allow me to talk to a person higher up the chain than herself. So, My recommendation is that you not only stay away from the Shine, I suggest you avoid LG products TOTALLY!!!
A waste of money. I'll never buy another LG April 4, 2008 Eph3k (Kentucky, USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Bluetooth functionality on this phone is a lie. I'm on the second warranty replacement and neither of them work with numerous bluetooth headsets that will work just fine with other phones. I would say the features were kind of cool, but 2 weeks after receiving the second warranty replacement, It quit taking a charge. The battery was fine according to AT&T, the problem was with the phone. Meanwhile my cheap little samsung GOPhone has no problems.
It's lacking some basic features July 12, 2008 Rachel Fernandes 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had been dying to get the Shine for a while and finally got it a few days ago. I was so excited - until that night when I tried switching the pictures and music from my old phone to the Shine. My "old" phone is a Samsung A727 and has the feature of copying or moving multiple files at once, which is what I did to get it on my boyfriend's microSD card. But to get my files off his card and onto the Shine I had to scroll down to the object of choice, copy it, and then scroll down again to paste it in my phone. VERY tedious and a complete waste of time. LG put many cool features into the Shine and made it look absolutely sexy, but to me they forgot about some basic features like multipy-copy or -move. It does have a multi-select feature but it can only be used to delete multiple items. Users also cannot customize the shortcuts that can be accessed by the joystick. For example, pushing right with the stick leads you to "IM". I *never* use IM on my phone, and thus I should be able to replace it with a shortcut I actually use. But the Shine doesn't have that option. It does have an "Option" page right off the main screen where you can customize any 12 (I think) "shortcuts" you want, to be fair, but I want something that I can access practically immediately. The speaker phone also wasn't very good. It cut out often. There was also an annoying beep in the background every few minutes whenever I talked to someone. The associates at AT&T couldn't figure out why. Of course, that was probably just my phone. My screen seemed durable, but after 3 days I had a small scratch on the back plate. I am not hard on phones whatsoever, so those who are need to be especially careful. Another basic feature that I'm pretty sure was missing was that when you text and want to use a symbol you can only do one at a time. I know for certain that this is true when you push the star button to open the symbols page, but I can't remember if it's like that when you choose options and then symbols (or whatever the titles are called). I ended up returning the phone today. Even though I loved the camera, some of the texting features (not the keys though, those took getting used to cuz they are so small), and the look of the phone, I refused to pay $[...] for a phone I wasn't completely, or near completely, happy with. Hope this helps.
Battery life is short after initial four months! July 13, 2008 Eric (Bay Area, CA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After four months of light usage, the battery efficiency drops. A full charge lasts barely 24 hours. A friend in battery sales told me this problematic battery right after I got the phone. I thought it was an isolated incident but now it's happening to my phone. Stay away from this crap. Fashionable design is nice but that's not the main purpose of the phone.
Nice Basic Phone February 26, 2008 Georgi (Texas, USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've had the LG Shine for about 3 months now and it has lived up to what I expected from it. Pros: * Very nice design and a sturdy feel. * Battery Life is pretty decent. It lasts about 5 days on stand by which includes 2 hrs of talk time during those 5 days. * The camera is good for a cell phone. No zoom though. * No problems installing and recognizing a 2GB micro SD card. Cons: * Transferring data via bluetooth is virtually impossible. I fought with it for about 2 hrs with no luck. It connects to my computer but the "LG Phone Manager" software still cannot recognize it. * I can't seem to adjust the microphone volume levels. Often people I talk to would not be able to hear me well unless I raise my voice. I've had no such problems with my previous phone. So so: * The software on the phone is responsive but the user interface is definitely not intuitive and takes time adapt. Overall this is a very decent slide phone and if you just need a phone to talk and take an occasional average quality picture I would recommend it.
