Pretty happy so far October 4, 2008 Bill K (Philadelphia, PA area) So far been pretty happy. Went with this one over the other colors since it looked the coolest (note that it may not necessarily indicate it, but some of them are more two-tone). The music feature is pretty neat, I don't use it as a true Walkman but more as a backup to my ipod. Phone has been fine so far, no dropped calls. I bought this phone for the added features like the radio, the ability to add the 4MB chip (buy it online for like $20) so you have a music and phone player, and the pedometer/step counter. Overall, have been pretty happy. Only down side is the proprietary power and headset, which is a major drag. While they include an adapter for you to attach a headset (note, NOT a microphone, but a walkman style headset, different size jack), who wants to have to carry that around. I was also a little dissappointed to have to carry around the headphone jack to serve as the radio antenna, but if that means less radio waves going into my head, I'm cool with that. Overall, 4 stars, still a little too early to rate battery life. I also bought one of those accessory packs only for like $5 that provided a car charger and an extra regular charger and a phone protector. I'll try and update this review once I've had this longer to comment on durability and other factors, but so far, so good.
Cheap Construction October 4, 2008 G. Geoffroy Everything is cheap plastic with this phone. You could make a sturdier phone from a PEZ dispenser. I'm an agile fingered pianist with a sensitive touch, but nevertheless all of my keys have split in half. Also, the sticker/emblem on back has popped off. All of this started just a few days after warranty (which is almost immediately).
wouldn't get another one October 10, 2008 R. Taylor I'm on my fourth W580i in less than two months. The speaker went out on the original new phone in less than one month of use, ATT replaced it with a factory rebuild that could not be recharged. This was replaced with another factory rebuild that could not read the sim card and wouldn't start. Now I have a fourth factory rebuild with a screen so scratched up its distracting and poor speaker quality. I'm actually on Amazon to look to buy a new phone since I appear to be stuck with a two year contract and this lemon. Incidentally, my son has the black W580i and its his third one. The keypad went out on the first and the second would not read the sim card. Stay away from Sony-they should all be yellow for lemon.
Great phone AND iSync compatible!! November 12, 2008 David Alan Sikes (Tuscaloosa, AL) I just got this phone, and it is wonderful. Out of the box, the phone comes with a USB cable, charger, and headphone adapter with microphone and button for calls, which allows you to use any headphone you like. The phone has been so great. It easily beats my previous Moto Q for ease of use, and quality of software. The only feature my Moto had that this lacks is the QWERTY keyboard, but the benefits of this phone far surpass that one setback. The number buttons are absolutely TINY, though. Keep that in mind. The music player is the best cellular player around (short of the iPhone). It is a lot of fun to use, though the quality isn't great by default. After tweaking the EQ a bit, it sounds nearly as good as my iPod. However, if you plan to use the music player at all, GET A MEMORY CARD. The phone info says it's compatible up to 2GB Memory Stick Micro M2, but it works just fine in higher capacities (I'm using a 4GB). Best of all, for me, this phone syncs contacts and calendar with my iMac flawlessly. You have to download a plugin (a free download) but it works so well. The camera is decent (no flash or mirror, though), and the built in software for editing photos and making videos and music is fun to play with. I love this phone, it's absolutely wonderful. The only drawbacks in my opinion are the tiny keys and no flash. Out of the box, it comes with everything you need.
