2 out of 5 stars Amazing Features - BAD Design   December 17, 2007

I've been a die-hard SonyEricsson fan for years...ever since the T616. I held onto my S710 until it's very last breath. When I finally had to make a change, I pondered and compared for months. Call me a nerd, but form and function in mobile phones is incredibly important!

Upon first receiving my W580i, I was ecstatic. The feature set and user-interface are AMAZING! The size is exactly what I wanted...I can't even feel that there's a phone slipped into my pockets.

As an avid texter, it wasn't long before the keys on the numeric keypad started cracking. The keys on the slider are now disloging from the case as well. I filed a return with SE, but how is one meant to function without a cell phone for 4-6 weeks while they repair? Further...there's nothing being done to prevent it from happening again?

For light use, this phone is awesome. For a power user...hold out for something else!

1 out of 5 stars Cracked keypad problems not fixed!   January 26, 2008

Before buying this phone, I did a lot of research. I read tons of Amazon reviews, CNET reviews, random web reviews---you name it. While everyone went on about how well-designed the phone was, they DID complain about the keypad breaking. I called Sony Ericsson myself and spoke with a representative from there. He stated that the broken keypad issues occured with the first batch of the w580i phones and that I should rest assured knowing the problem had been addressed and fixed. I thought to myself: how hard could it really be to completely fix a broken keypad and replace it with one that doesn't have the slighest chance of breaking? So, I went along and ordered the phone.

To my dismay, not even 3 weeks later, I noticed three of my buttons on the phone's keypad had broken! I guess the representative didn't know what he was talking about.

While the phone has a ton of great features (which I'll save you the trouble of reading; past reviewers have raved about it all enough) and a very good battery life, to me that's no good if the keypad is going to break after only 3 weeks. Out of all the phones I've ever had in my life, I have never once had the keypad crack. What a shame, really. I will never trust a Sony phone again. I will be just fine with my Nokia and Motorola phones from now on.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent new walkman from Sony Ericsson   September 25, 2007

This is a great slider phone that comes loaded with all the options one can ask for. I switched from Verizon to AT&T - was hesitant to do so at first, but I am quite happy with the switch both in terms of the network coverage which is on par with Verizon in the area I live in and the phone which is outstanding....

My only complaint is that the voice dialing with a bluetooth headset could use a couple of additional features. You still have to press a button on the phone(the volume button) to activate voice dialing mode via a bluetooth headset which defeats the purpose. This is not required if you use the wired headset that comes with the phone.... but it would be nice to have this function compatible with the bluetooth headset as well.

But then again, its a minor gripe. I am quite happy with the other features... speakerphone works great, excellent clarity of calls, the 2MP camera is good, the walkman works great. I dont browse the net on the phone - so cant comment on that. On the whole a good buy!!! I am glad I didnt shell out 400 bucks for the iPhone though in terms of looks and style the iPhone is rather in a class of its own. :)

3 out of 5 stars Good phone. Nice Camara. Great MP3 Player.   October 28, 2007

I like this phone except for one thing so far. The battery cover is the hardest thing to get on and I broke it the first time I tried to take it off and put it back on. But I have to say that sony stands behind there products , they replaced the battery cover free of charge. So just be carefull if you get this phone. I think my Motorola was better made , but I don't like there software. But this phone has great software and you can use it with your computer which is great. I would recommend this phone. Just be careful with it.
