4 out of 5 stars Works good for the most part   April 11, 2008

I had the BlueAnt SuperTooth speakerphone in my car previously. While it worked okay for the most part, issues with echoing and that fact I wanted A2DP made me search around for other options.

When I first laid my eyes on the T505 I know this was exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't find any solid professional reviews of the device at the time, but judging by the Amazon ratings, I decided to go for it.

First, the device physically is steps above anything from BlueAnt or even previous Motorola bluetooth speakerphones. The light on it doesn't glare at you when driving at night and it doesn't take up half the visor in your car.

The first design flaw I found with the device is turning it on and off. You must press the power button on the back for about 3-4 seconds until it chimes. This really isn't a huge issue, but powering it off is. The device is supposed to turn off after losing connection from your phone for 20 minutes. In theory, you leave your car, and it will power off on it's own. Problem is if your out of your car but near it still, it will stay on for as long as you're near your vehicle. Even more annoying is when I'm at home and I answer the phone it will answer in the car parked in my garage! After a few minutes of confusion I tell my Motorola Q9c smartphone to turn handsfree off for the call. However, the same thing happens on the next call coming in. To stop this, you have to either power off the T505 when leaving your vehicle (press for 3-4 seconds) or manually tell the cell phone to disconnect it's session from the device. Again, this isn't a huge issue, but it's annoying. I think Motorola should offer a simple "switch" on the device like the blueant has. It makes it way easier to quickly turn off and on, and gives you a good visual if the device is on. The T505 status light slowly goes on and off, great while driving, but seems like you have to look at it for 3 seconds to decide if it's on or off.

The FM Transmitter is weak. If you have a car were the antenna is mounted near the front, then you're probably going to be fine. However, the antenna on my vehicle is located in the rear. I rarely get a clear signal. I will say the automatic tuning the T505 does is excellent. It usually does pick a weak frequency to tune to. I like how you can chose to have FM or use the speaker on the T505. Most FM bluetooth speakerphones only use FM. For music however, I find I rarely use the A2DP on this device because the music usually has static in it. Again, a lot of this has to do with antenna placement and probably how well your stereo pulls in FM stations. I really wish the T505 would offer a line out. You could run a wire up to your visor and plug it directly into your stereo.

Good call quality (both speaker and FM if you're getting a decent signal) and price make this attractive and I would recommend it to anyone as long as they understand its weak points.

5 out of 5 stars best incar blutooth speakerphone so far   April 30, 2008

I have used many bluetooth earphones. Although many of them sound Ok but the most common problem is that the person at the other end can't hear you well. My two GPS devices also have bluetooth capability for cell phones but with the same problem: the other person can't hear you well. The Motorokr T505 solved that problem. People at the other end can not tell the difference whether I am using the cellphone (Motorola V9 with ATT, a great sounding phone)or the speakerphone. The sound coming out of this device is loud enough and very clear. Cliped on the sunvisor, you are totally handsfree and "ear-free" so you dont have to take it off your ear to listen to music when not on the phone. Turning it on and off is easy, and very easy to use in general. I have no comments on the battery life yet since I dont chat for too long in the car. But I find charging it in the car is easy. I use it exclusively in the car where this device is supposed to be. I use a bluetooth earphone outside the car. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to use it in the car.

5 out of 5 stars Best bluetooth gadget yet!   March 20, 2008

No point in describing the features since one of the first reviewers did that. All I can say is the FM transmitter is very very clear and I'm in a fairly big town...Staten Island, NY...I am told to tune to 89.1FM every time. The sound is incredibly clear thru my VW Touareg's speaker system. I am using a Motorola Razr V9 thru AT&T.

I was a little confused in the beginning using the FM transmitter though, not in receiving the calls but in sending. I was wondering why I'd try to dial on my Razr and I couldn't hear a thing. Turns out that you have to tune to the FM station that you are told to set your transmitter to and then you can dial out. I didn't realize that.

When you receive a call, you don't have to be tuned to the channel. The call is announced whether I'm listening to a CD or another FM station. Haven't used it yet with my iPod running so I'm clueless as to how it would work.

I used an MV900 speaker box before this which worked very well, but it didn't have an FM transmitter. I prefer the T505 over every other gadget I've tried, short of hardwiring a device thru my NAV system.

1 out of 5 stars poorly designed- but it does work   May 4, 2008

I bought this because I read all the great reviews here.
I am very disapointed with it's design.
once you pair the unit it connects to your phone, no problem there.
my problem is if you park your car in you garage and forget to turn the unit off . when you go in your house the unit stays paired with your phone, That means if you get a call you can't hear to person calling you until you go out to the car and shut it off.
Also the way turn it on and off is pretty annoying, you have to press a spot in the back of the unit and hold it pressed for 3 seconds. really stupid. this thing has a battery in it so even if you plug it into your cigarette lighter that has no power when you turn your car off, the unit still stays on and connected to your phone.
If you are looking for a device that will pair to your phone when you start your car and dissconect to your phone when you turn your car off THIS IS NOT THE ONE !!!

I am so disgusted!

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing   April 18, 2008

I bought this based on other positive reviews and was extremely disappointed. People can't hear me when I'm speaking, especially when the car is moving and there is some background noise. The volume on the device speaker is also inadequate for me to hear others. The FM modulator is a nice function but impractical for calls if you're listening to the radio, as you have to change to the designated station to make or take a call. It paired fine with one of my phones, it would not pair at all with another.
